Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Des Plaines, Illinois

Embark on a meaningful opportunity supporting students with visual impairments in a dynamic educational setting. This full-time contract role (37.5 hours per week) is based on-site, covering multiple school sites within a well-regarded district near Des Plaines, IL. As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), you will work with students ranging from Pre-K to transition age, acting as a Vision Related Services Leader and providing guidance, mentoring, and essential support not only to students and families, but to educators and staff within the district’s Vision Related Services Department.

Qualifications & Desired Experience

• Active Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with appropriate endorsement for teaching students with visual impairments
• Master’s Degree in a related field
• Minimum of five years’ school-based experience as a TVI
• Expertise in best practices for instructing visually impaired students
• Strong mentoring, coaching, and leadership abilities
• Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and advocate for necessary resources
• Completion of required fingerprinting for credentialing

Primary Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality vision-related instruction and services to students across multiple school locations
• Provide leadership within the Vision Related Services Department, offering training, professional support, and guidance to both new and returning staff
• Mentor and coach fellow educators to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes
• Engage with students’ families, supporting them in understanding their child’s needs and progress
• Collaborate with school teams to ensure accommodations and resources are appropriately implemented
