Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience or familiarity with adaptive technology, braille, and large print materials
  • Ability to develop and adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs
  • Strong collaboration skills to work with general education staff, therapists, and families
  • Compassion, patience, and creativity in supporting diverse learning styles
  • Prior experience in a school setting, preferably serving visually impaired students

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction in core academic areas, social skills, and mobility, tailored for students with visual impairments
  • Conduct assessments to determine functional vision and learning needs
  • Design and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure accessible educational environments
  • Serve as a resource for school staff and families regarding best practices and assistive tools
  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress monitoring for each student
