Make a difference in the lives of students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a dynamic, contract-based opportunity in the Elgin, IL area. This part-time, onsite role calls for an educator ready to offer specialized support across elementary and middle school populations. As an itinerant professional, you’ll collaborate with staff and students across multiple schools, ensuring access, progress, and engagement in educational activities for learners with visual impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored for students with visual impairments.
  • Provide direct instruction in braille, use of assistive technology, and other adaptive techniques essential for student learning and independence.
  • Conduct assessments and collaborate closely with classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to promote student success.
  • Serve as an advocate and resource, modeling strategies and adaptations for educational staff.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instructional approaches as needed.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and professional development related to best practices in visual impairment education.

Qualifications:

  • Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsement as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI).
  • Experience supporting elementary through middle school students preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as an itinerant provider.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in adapted instruction, braille, orientation and mobility, and assistive technology.
  • Commitment to empowering students with visual impairments to succeed academically and socially.
