Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or the ability to obtain credentialing in California
- Expertise in creating accessible instructional materials (braille, large print, assistive technology)
- Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, ideally within K-12 settings
- Strong collaboration skills for partnering with multidisciplinary teams, educators, and families
- Effective communication skills and a compassionate, student-centered approach
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and group instruction to visually impaired students in accordance with IEP goals
- Assess student needs and develop customized lesson plans and accommodations
- Train students in the use of assistive technology, orientation and mobility techniques, and adaptive tools
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to facilitate inclusive classroom experiences
- Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and parent conferences
- Uphold compliance with district, state, and federal special education regulations
