Key Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with a specialization in visual impairment (TVI) or the ability to obtain relevant credentials
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision in K-12 settings
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, adaptive technology, and materials for visually impaired students
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEP) tailored to student needs
  • Passion for fostering independence and confidence in students with visual impairments

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum and classroom materials as necessary
  • Consulting and collaborating with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to ensure student success
  • Conducting assessments to determine appropriate accommodations, modifications, and specialized instruction
  • Maintaining detailed documentation on student progress, IEP goals, and service delivery
  • Advocating for accessible educational resources and promoting an inclusive school culture
  • Participating in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices and technologies
