Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by serving as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a full-time, onsite contract role based in the Denver area for the 2026-2027 school year. Work with students ranging from early childhood through high school, fostering growth and individualized achievement in collaboration with supportive staff and families.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Colorado DOE certification, including the “Special Education Specialist – Visual Impairment (ages 0-21)” endorsement
- Master’s degree or higher in special education visual impairment or equivalent (as determined by the department)
- Experience with vision-related assessments and developing IEPs for students with visual needs
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner with families and multidisciplinary teams
- Preferred: Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Certification (not required, but will be given preference)
- Must be able to complete district background check and fingerprinting requirements
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assess vision-related needs, administer functional vision and Expanded Core Curriculum evaluations, and determine eligibility for services
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs for students from birth to 21 years old
- Deliver specialized instruction and support, including orientation and mobility training where needed
- Adapt classroom materials and environments to ensure accessibility for visually impaired students
- Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and district staff to support student success and maintain compliance
- Maintain student records and support the ongoing documentation of educational progress
- Commit to the full academic year, providing continuity and consistent support for assigned students
This contract role offers the chance to serve diverse learners throughout the district on a consistent Monday through Friday schedule (35 hours per week).
