Make a difference in the lives of students by supporting their learning and independence as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. This full-time, itinerant contract position is located in the Ephrata, WA area, providing services across multiple school sites. While the primary role is in-person, there may be opportunity for a hybrid schedule, offering some added flexibility.
In this essential role, you'll collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to ensure students who are blind or visually impaired have equal access to a fully inclusive educational experience. Your expertise will help develop individualized education plans and facilitate the use of assistive technology and specialized instructional materials.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid Washington state Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) licensure is required.
- Background working with K-12 students who are blind or have visual impairments.
- Ability to travel between school locations as part of an itinerant schedule.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in creating and implementing individualized instructional strategies and materials.
- Proficiency with assistive technology and accessible curriculum resources.
- Collaborative team mindset, adaptable to diverse learning environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs.
- Train students and staff in the use of adaptive devices and Braille as needed.
- Support classroom teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional materials.
- Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to student evaluations.
- Monitor student progress and document outcomes.
