Qualifications:

  • State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or eligibility for certification
  • Proven experience working with children or young adults with visual impairments
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and various adaptive tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for advocacy and inclusive education
  • Ability to develop and implement tailored instructional plans and accommodations
  • Collaborative spirit to work effectively within multidisciplinary educational teams

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver individualized instruction to students with vision impairments
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and collaborate with staff and families to identify goals
  • Support classroom teachers with strategies, modifications, and resources for accessible learning
  • Facilitate training in braille, large print, tactile materials, and technological aids
  • Serve as an advocate for students, ensuring compliance with IEPs and educational best practices
  • Monitor students’ progress and provide ongoing communication to educational stakeholders
  • Participate in meetings and professional development to stay informed on the latest tools and research
