Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Experience working with students with visual impairments across various grade levels
- Strong understanding of specialized instructional strategies and assistive technologies
- Proficient in creating accessible materials, including braille and large print
- Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with teachers, families, and support staff
- Compassion, adaptability, and dedication to advocacy for students’ needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and consultative services for students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning environments to determine instructional needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum materials
- Teach students to utilize adaptive equipment and technology for greater independence
- Offer guidance and support to families and school staff
- Maintain detailed records of student progress and communication
