As a contract teacher specializing in visual impairment, you’ll play a vital role in providing tailored instruction, resources, and support to help learners access academic content and promote greater independence.

Qualifications and Background:

  • Must hold a valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Previous experience working with students with visual impairments preferred
  • Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional materials
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with educators, families, and support staff
  • Willingness to manage caseloads across multiple grade levels as needed

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) specifically aligned for visually impaired students
  • Provide direct instruction in Braille literacy, assistive technology, orientation and mobility as appropriate
  • Adapt curriculum and design accessible instructional materials
  • Serve as a resource for general education teachers regarding modifications and accommodations
  • Advocate for students' needs within multidisciplinary teams and assist with progress monitoring and documentation
