Responsibilities include:
- Delivering individualized and group instruction to students with visual impairments, focusing on tailored learning plans and adaptive strategies.
- Collaborating with general education teachers and staff to create inclusive classroom environments.
- Preparing, adapting, and providing accessible instructional materials using Braille and assistive technologies.
- Assessing student needs to support academic and personal growth.
- Serving as an advocate for students’ educational access and participating in IEP meetings as needed.
- Providing training to staff and family members on how to support students with visual impairments effectively.
- Maintaining accurate documentation and progress reports in compliance with educational standards.
- As a Brailler, transcribing classroom materials and resources into Braille to ensure accessibility.
Ideal candidates will possess:
- Experience teaching students with visual impairments or demonstrable skills as a Brailler.
- Strong knowledge of braille literacy, adaptive technology, and best practices for accessibility.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work within multidisciplinary teams.
- Relevant credentials or certification in visual impairment education or braille transcription (where applicable).
- Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and adaptability.
