Desired Skills and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification for Visual Impairment (TVI)
- Experience providing direct instruction and modifications for visually impaired students
- Strong collaboration skills when working with teachers, staff, and families
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive devices
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to supporting educational equity and accessibility
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ visual needs and create individualized instructional plans
- Deliver direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and use of adaptive technology
- Consult with classroom teachers and support staff to modify curriculum and provide resources
- Provide guidance and resources to families for continued support at home
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
- Advocate for students’ needs in IEP meetings and ensure compliance with federal/state guidelines
