Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification for Visual Impairment (TVI)
  • Experience providing direct instruction and modifications for visually impaired students
  • Strong collaboration skills when working with teachers, staff, and families
  • Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive devices
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment to supporting educational equity and accessibility

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ visual needs and create individualized instructional plans
  • Deliver direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and use of adaptive technology
  • Consult with classroom teachers and support staff to modify curriculum and provide resources
  • Provide guidance and resources to families for continued support at home
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
  • Advocate for students’ needs in IEP meetings and ensure compliance with federal/state guidelines
