This contract role offers the unique opportunity to work closely with a diverse group of 20-23 students with varying support needs, helping them reach their fullest potential in a supportive school environment.

Key Qualifications:

  • Hold an active North Carolina Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) license or appropriate certifications
  • Experience working with students who are visually impaired, preferably in a school setting
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with classroom teachers, specialists, and families
  • Comfortable adapting teaching material and approaches to meet each student’s unique needs
  • Compassionate, resourceful, and able to foster a supportive learning atmosphere

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and group instruction tailored to the abilities of visually impaired students
  • Assess students’ functional vision and make recommendations for classroom modifications
  • Collaborate with school staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Suggest and support the use of adaptive equipment and technology
  • Maintain thorough documentation of student progress and consult with families regularly
  • Participate in professional development to stay current with best practices in visual impairment education
