Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired within a supportive educational community. This contract opportunity spans across K-12 settings, working as an itinerant educator and offering specialized instruction to approximately 10 students who are visually impaired. You’ll have the chance to collaborate with dedicated professionals, serving students from elementary through high school, and help empower them to reach their fullest potential. The assignment runs from now through June 11th, 2027, with a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week.
What you’ll bring:
- Valid Maryland Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) license
- Experience or passion for working with K-12 students
- Ability to manage an itinerant caseload and adapt to a variety of school environments
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with students, families, and staff
- Knowledge of adaptive instructional techniques, assistive technology, and materials for visual impairment
Key responsibilities:
- Provide direct, individualized instruction to students who are visually impaired, in alignment with individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Consult with classroom teachers and support staff to facilitate access and inclusion
- Conduct functional vision assessments, develop appropriate materials, and implement strategies to support student learning
- Maintain detailed documentation and contribute to IEP meetings
- Support students in developing critical academic, orientation, and daily living skills
