Key Qualifications:
- Hold current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in Virginia
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach Braille to students of varying ages and abilities
- Experience collaborating with general and special education staff to support students’ unique learning needs
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to fostering independence and accessibility for students who are blind or have low vision
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instructional support for students who are visually impaired, adapting curriculum materials and teaching Braille as required
- Assess students' visual and academic needs, developing and implementing individualized educational plans in partnership with the IEP team
- Serve as an advocate and resource for students, staff, and families regarding accessibility and accommodations
- Travel to assigned sites within the local area as needed (three days per week, 7.5 hours per day, totaling 21 hours weekly)
- Maintain accurate documentation and participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and team discussions
- Support transition planning and the development of independent living skills for students
