Step into an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting students with visual impairments across an engaging and dynamic school environment. As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired on a full-time contract, you’ll travel between multiple sites in the New Orleans area, partnering with educators and providing specialized instruction to students who need your expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Travel daily to a variety of school sites, delivering direct services to visually impaired students of all ages and grade levels
• Interpret and facilitate individual student needs, developing strategies that ensure academic success
• Source and adapt materials, including textbooks, to accessible formats such as Braille
• Train school staff through in-service sessions so that visually impaired students receive appropriate classroom supports
• Maintain ongoing communication with classroom teachers and the Louisiana Department of Education, collaborating to support students’ individualized plans
• Stay up to date on assistive technologies, implementing and training both students and staff as necessary
• Provide Braille instruction and, as possible, orientation and mobility training
• Fulfill additional duties as outlined by the Director of IDEA, supporting the broader needs of the school community

Desired Background:

• Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana Department of Education Certification, plus Visually Impaired Certification
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to inspire and motivate others
• Experience managing multiple priorities under demanding timelines
• In-depth knowledge of assistive technologies for the visually impaired
• Strong professionalism and adaptability
• Must pass required district drug screening and fingerprinting; candidates need to provide their own transportation
