This role serves a school-based setting near Hernando, MS, supporting students as they develop critical academic and adaptive skills through specialized instruction and advocacy.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairments or Blind Education
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, preferably in a school environment
  • Proficiency in Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive devices
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work closely with families, teachers, and support staff
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects and expanded core curriculum for students with visual impairments
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate functional vision and learning needs
  • Collaborate with special educators, therapists, and classroom teachers to support inclusive education
  • Customize learning materials to ensure accessibility and promote independence
  • Offer guidance to parents and school personnel regarding best practices and resources in visual impairment education
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute valuable input for student programming and progress monitoring
