Key Qualifications:

  • Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to become certified
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired in an educational setting
  • Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Organizational skills and adaptability in a fast-paced classroom environment

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess student needs and develop tailored instructional plans
  • Provide direct and consultative services for students with visual impairments from preschool through high school
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, aides, and related service providers to ensure inclusion and accessibility
  • Teach core curriculum content, Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and the use of technology and adaptive devices
  • Advocate for student accommodations and appropriate learning materials
  • Monitor progress, update documentation, and participate in IEP meetings
  • Offer professional guidance and training to staff and families as needed
