Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain certification
  • Previous experience working with children or youth with visual impairments preferred
  • Strong understanding of Braille instruction, adaptive technology, and accessible educational materials
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, families, and other educators
  • Flexibility and creativity in adapting instruction to meet diverse learner needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive instruction tailored to students with visual impairments across grade levels
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to the evaluation process for appropriate services
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to provide accommodations and modify classroom materials
  • Instruct students in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, assistive technology, and self-advocacy
  • Communicate regularly with families, support staff, and school administration regarding student progress and needs
  • Maintain detailed records and participate in IEP meetings, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements
