Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
  • Previous experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments preferred
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive equipment
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills
  • Ability to create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Ability to adapt instructional methods to accommodate diverse learning styles

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs in a classroom environment
  • Develop and deliver tailored lesson plans utilizing Braille, large print, tactile materials, and other appropriate resources
  • Provide direct instruction to students, both individually and in groups
  • Consult and collaborate with classroom staff, related service providers, and families
  • Conduct assessments and help determine eligibility for special education services
  • Assist in selecting and implementing assistive technology
  • Participate in IEP meetings and maintain accurate progress documentation
