Empower students to achieve their fullest potential by providing specialized instruction and support as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired. Serving a vibrant school community near Indianapolis, IN, you'll play a vital role in helping students with visual impairments participate fully in academic and extracurricular activities. This contract position is designed for passionate educators driven by a commitment to equity and innovation in learning.

Qualifications:

  • State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or the ability to obtain appropriate licensure
  • Experience working in educational settings with students who have visual impairments
  • Familiarity with Braille instruction and assistive technologies
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate with general and special education staff, families, and related service providers
  • Adaptability and creativity in delivering individualized instruction

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ strengths, needs, and progress, developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Provide direct instruction to students in areas such as Braille, orientation and mobility, and adaptive technology
  • Consult with teachers and support staff to modify general curriculum for accessibility and inclusion
  • Advocate for student needs, and partner with families to encourage student independence
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and school-wide initiatives
  • Maintain accurate progress and attendance records as required
