Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification or credential as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Previous experience working with visually impaired children in a school setting is highly desirable
- Comfort teaching and adapting materials for students from PreK through 12th grade
- Familiarity with braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility strategies
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to organize and manage a varied caseload independently
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to visually impaired students, tailoring strategies to each learner’s needs
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Conduct functional vision, learning media, and assistive technology assessments as needed
- Consult with teachers and staff to provide guidance on accessible classroom materials and accommodations
- Engage with parents and guardians to support students’ progress and advocate for their needs
- Stay current with best practices and legal mandates in vision education
