This itinerant role involves traveling to multiple sites, delivering essential support and instruction to visually impaired students from August 3, 2026 to May 27, 2027. With a schedule of 35 hours per week, you’ll collaborate with school teams and help shape an inclusive learning environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Louisiana Department of Education Certification, bachelor’s degree, and certification in visual impairment (required)
- At least 3 years of teaching experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to motivate and collaborate with diverse school personnel
- Deep knowledge of assistive technology for visually impaired students, with capacity to train both students and fellow educators
- Proficiency in Braille instruction; familiarity with orientation and mobility training preferred
- Analytical skills for data-driven decision-making and problem-solving in support of student needs
- Professionalism, disciplined thinking, and the ability to balance competing responsibilities
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel daily between school sites in the area
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct services and instruction to visually impaired students across assigned schools
- Facilitate the acquisition of specialized textbooks and materials
- Consult and partner with general education teachers to ensure proper instructional preparations
- Provide ongoing in-service training for school staff regarding best practices for visually impaired students
- Maintain regular communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and perform tasks as assigned by the Director of IDEA
- Complete district-specific credentialing processes, including drug screen and fingerprinting
