Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Kenner, Louisiana

Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in the New Orleans area. This is a contract position starting August 3, 2026, and running through May 27, 2027, offering the opportunity to work 35 hours per week across multiple schools. The role is itinerant, so flexibility and the ability to travel to various sites daily are essential.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana Department of Education certification for teaching the visually impaired.
• At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education.
• Strong knowledge of assistive technology and Braille instruction; familiarity with orientation and mobility training preferred.
• Track record of high performance in challenging educational settings and an unwavering commitment to supporting student achievement.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as an inspiring and motivating presence.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to make informed decisions.
• Capacity to manage multiple priorities professionally, showing sound judgment and initiative.
• Must provide own transportation and be mobile across school locations.
• Ability to complete district-required drug screening, fingerprinting, and additional credentialing.

Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct services to visually impaired students, supporting a range of ages and educational needs.
• Obtain and prepare special textbooks and materials in accessible formats.
• Provide in-service training for school staff, ensuring comprehensive support for visually impaired students.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify and adapt instructional materials.
• Serve as a liaison with the Louisiana Department of Education and maintain ongoing communication with all stakeholders.
• Fulfill additional tasks as assigned by the Director of IDEA.
