Empower students and educators by lending your expertise as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a dynamic school-based contract position near Kent, WA. Your specialized skills will help foster an inclusive educational environment, ensuring students with visual impairments have access to the tools and support they need to thrive.

Utilize your knowledge to provide both direct and consultative services, and collaborate closely with school staff through essential training sessions. You’ll play a vital role in promoting independence for students, including offering critical orientation and mobility guidance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
  • Proven experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Strong understanding of orientation and mobility instruction techniques
  • Ability to develop and adapt individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with staff, students, and families

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instructional services in vision and orientation/mobility (up to 570 mins vision support, 300 mins orientation & mobility)
  • Provide fall training sessions for staff on best practices for supporting visually impaired students
  • Conduct thorough student assessments and contribute to the development of IEP goals
  • Consult with other educators, staff, and families to create accessible learning opportunities
  • Champion independence and self-advocacy skills in students with visual impairments
