Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain certification
  • Experience with individualized educational plans (IEPs) and adapting curriculum for visually impaired students
  • Proficient with Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility techniques
  • Strong communication skills for working with students, parents, and school teams
  • Compassionate, patient, and committed to fostering inclusive learning environments
  • Previous experience in school settings is preferred, but not required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess student abilities and design effective learning plans tailored to individual needs
  • Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects, Braille, and assistive technology
  • Collaborate with special education and general education staff to ensure proper accommodations
  • Participate in IEP meetings, providing expertise and advocacy on behalf of students
  • Facilitate orientation and mobility training to promote independence
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and communicate regularly with families and staff
  • Foster a supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages growth and self-confidence
