Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain certification
- Experience with individualized educational plans (IEPs) and adapting curriculum for visually impaired students
- Proficient with Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility techniques
- Strong communication skills for working with students, parents, and school teams
- Compassionate, patient, and committed to fostering inclusive learning environments
- Previous experience in school settings is preferred, but not required
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess student abilities and design effective learning plans tailored to individual needs
- Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects, Braille, and assistive technology
- Collaborate with special education and general education staff to ensure proper accommodations
- Participate in IEP meetings, providing expertise and advocacy on behalf of students
- Facilitate orientation and mobility training to promote independence
- Maintain accurate records of progress and communicate regularly with families and staff
- Foster a supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages growth and self-confidence
