Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proven experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and tactile materials
- Collaborative mindset, able to partner with fellow educators, therapists, and families
- Commitment to individualized instruction and adaptive strategies
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to travel between school sites as needed
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ visual abilities and design tailored instructional plans in alignment with IEPs
- Provide direct and consultative services to students, teachers, and families
- Adapt curriculum, classroom materials, and instructional methods to ensure accessibility
- Teach compensatory skills, including Braille, orientation and mobility, and assistive technology use
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation
- Serve as a resource and advocate for students with visual impairments in the school setting
- Participate in IEP meetings, student evaluations, and professional development activities
