Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Proven experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and tactile materials
  • Collaborative mindset, able to partner with fellow educators, therapists, and families
  • Commitment to individualized instruction and adaptive strategies
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to travel between school sites as needed

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ visual abilities and design tailored instructional plans in alignment with IEPs
  • Provide direct and consultative services to students, teachers, and families
  • Adapt curriculum, classroom materials, and instructional methods to ensure accessibility
  • Teach compensatory skills, including Braille, orientation and mobility, and assistive technology use
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for students with visual impairments in the school setting
  • Participate in IEP meetings, student evaluations, and professional development activities
