As an experienced educator for students with visual impairments, you’ll serve as an essential resource within the school community. Your knowledge and dedication will help foster accessibility and inclusion, ensuring each child receives the tailored support they deserve.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification for Visual Impairment (TVI)
- Previous experience working with K-12 students with visual needs
- Familiarity with adaptive technology and Braille instruction
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and staff
- Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ visual abilities and design effective instructional plans
- Provide direct instruction in academic subjects and compensatory skills supporting the core curriculum
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers and related service providers
- Support transition planning and orientation/mobility skills, where appropriate
- Advocate for accessible classroom materials and technology
- Engage families in their child’s education and progress
- Maintain detailed progress records and participate in IEP meetings
