As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI), you'll collaborate with other educators, families, and specialists to develop individualized plans and provide tailored instruction that makes a meaningful difference every day.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid certification/license as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
  • Prior school-based experience supporting students with visual impairments (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and families
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for cultivating accessible and engaging learning environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs to drive instructional planning
  • Deliver direct instruction in braille, orientation and mobility strategies, and use of assistive technology
  • Adapt curriculum materials and activities for optimal accessibility
  • Partner with classroom teachers and staff to ensure modifications and accommodations are in place
  • Provide training, resources, and guidance for staff and families on best practices
  • Monitor student progress, update individualized education plans (IEPs), and maintain accurate records
  • Advocate for students to ensure their full participation in school activities
