Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid state teaching certification with an endorsement in Visual Impairment
  • Previous experience working as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, preferably in a school environment
  • Solid understanding of assistive technology, adaptive materials, and Braille instruction
  • Ability to create individualized educational plans tailored to student needs
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with students, families, and school teams
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess the educational and functional vision needs of students, developing and implementing effective instructional strategies
  • Deliver direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, both one-on-one and within classroom settings
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other service providers to adapt curriculum and integrate accessibility supports
  • Train staff, caregivers, and students in the use of assistive technology and Braille materials as needed
  • Monitor and document student progress, maintain up-to-date records, and participate in IEP meetings
  • Advocate for students’ specific needs, ensuring equitable access to learning materials and the school environment
