Make a meaningful difference supporting students with visual impairments in an educational setting near Long Beach, CA. This contract opportunity is ideal for professionals dedicated to inclusive learning and equipped with specialized expertise. We are seeking a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and are open to candidates who are also dually credentialed or certified as an Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist. Additionally, there may be a need for a skilled braille transcriber to further support our students’ success.

Qualifications & Experience Desired:

  • Valid credential or certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist certification and experience highly valued
  • Experience working in school settings or with children and adolescents who have visual impairments
  • Proficiency with adaptive technology and accessible instructional materials
  • Strong knowledge of braille and tactile graphics
  • For the braille transcriber role: recognized braille transcription certification
  • Collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals related to vision support
  • Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies for accessibility
  • Instruct and support students in the development of compensatory skills, including braille and assistive technology
  • If dual certified, deliver Orientation & Mobility instruction to foster independent travel and safety
  • Collaborate with general educators, related service providers, and families
  • For braille transcribers: translate curriculum and materials into accessible braille format
