Teacher of Visually Impaired in Long Beach, CA

This contract opportunity is ideal for professionals dedicated to inclusive learning and equipped with specialized expertise. We are seeking a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and are open to candidates who are also dually credentialed or certified as an Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist. Additionally, there may be a need for a skilled braille transcriber to further support our students’ success.

Qualifications & Experience Desired:

• Valid credential or certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
• Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist certification and experience highly valued
• Experience working in school settings or with children and adolescents who have visual impairments
• Proficiency with adaptive technology and accessible instructional materials
• Strong knowledge of braille and tactile graphics
• For the braille transcriber role: recognized braille transcription certification
• Collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals related to vision support
• Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies for accessibility
• Instruct and support students in the development of compensatory skills, including braille and assistive technology
• If dual certified, deliver Orientation & Mobility instruction to foster independent travel and safety
• Collaborate with general educators, related service providers, and families
• For braille transcribers: translate curriculum and materials into accessible braille format
