Step into a rewarding contract role supporting students with visual impairments in the greater Lowell, MA area, working onsite for the 2026-2027 academic year. In this position, you'll play an integral part in delivering tailored instruction to students who are visually impaired, helping them access education in meaningful, impactful ways.
Key Qualifications:
- Active MA Department of Education license as a Visually Impaired Teacher (VI Teacher)
- Successful completion of MTELs (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure)
- Demonstrated experience serving students with visual impairments, preferably in a school-based setting
- Strong collaboration skills and a commitment to working closely with classroom teachers, staff, and families
- Capability to adapt instructional materials and employ assistive technology as needed
- Dedication to fostering independence and self-advocacy in students
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and consultative support to students with visual impairments across various grade levels
- Assess student needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team
- Modify curriculum materials and employ Braille, large print, or specialized technology to facilitate student learning
- Collaborate with classroom educators to ensure inclusion and accessibility
- Participate in regular meetings, IEP reviews, and parent communications
- Maintain accurate records and document student progress
