Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
- Experience working with children and adolescents with vision loss
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Commitment to advocacy and fostering independence among students
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ abilities and develop tailored educational plans
- Adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments to ensure accessibility
- Teach Braille, use of low vision aids, and orientation/mobility skills as needed
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and participate in IEP meetings
- Provide guidance and support to staff regarding best practices for accommodating visual impairments
