Teacher of Visually Impaired in Mashpee, MA

As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), you will collaborate across multiple school buildings and work with students ranging in age from preschool through age 22. Key qualifications and desired experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution; Master’s Degree in Special Education is a plus
• Valid Massachusetts DESE certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Vision Impairment license)
• SEI Endorsement required
• Strong understanding of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), including compensatory/access skills, assistive technology, and O&M-related collaboration
• Familiarity with Braille, large print, tactile graphics, and low-vision devices preferred
• Previous experience conducting assessments for visually impaired students is valued

Primary responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in academic, social, and functional skills settings
• Conduct and interpret functional vision assessments (FVAs), learning media assessments (LMAs), and other relevant vision-specific evaluations to support eligibility decisions and IEP development
• Collaborate with education teams and families to develop individualized plans based on each student’s unique strengths and needs
• Support students in navigating and accessing general education materials and environments using adaptive techniques and assistive technology
• Liaise with orientation and mobility specialists and other service providers to ensure comprehensive support
