Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairment
  • Experience serving K-12 students with visual disabilities
  • Proficiency in Braille instruction and assistive technology for the visually impaired
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with families, teachers, and support staff
  • Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability in developing individualized learning strategies
  • Dedication to fostering an inclusive, supportive educational environment

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s needs
  • Deliver direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive tech
  • Consult with general educators to modify materials and accommodate students
  • Foster self-advocacy and life skills for visually impaired students
  • Conduct assessments to monitor progress and adapt teaching methods accordingly
  • Participate in IEP meetings and advocate for student needs
  • Provide resources, strategies, and training to school staff and families
