Teacher of Visually Impaired in Metairie, LA

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (required)
• Active Louisiana Department of Education Certification
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education roles
• In-depth knowledge of assistive technology specific to visual impairments; experience training both students and educators
• Ability to provide Braille instruction to students
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families
• Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
• Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is a plus
• Must meet time-sensitive credentialing requirements, including drug screening and district fingerprinting
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel between school sites daily

Primary Responsibilities:

• Travel to assigned school sites to deliver itinerant TVI services to students in grades K-12
• Facilitate and coordinate special materials and textbooks for visually impaired students
• Provide in-service training for school personnel on effective supports and accommodations
• Collaborate closely with general education teachers to ensure accessible learning materials
• Maintain effective communication with the state Department of Education and district personnel
• Offer direct instruction in Braille and assistive technology to students
• Adapt and respond flexibly to evolving caseload needs and assignments
