Take your expertise in supporting visually impaired students to an impactful role this school year. As an itinerant instructor, you'll serve multiple campuses in the New Orleans area, working with diverse student populations across elementary and secondary settings from August 2026 through May 2027.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Traveling daily to assigned schools to provide direct instruction and support for visually impaired students, ensuring individualized needs are fully met.
  • Delivering in-service training to school staff to promote inclusive practices and effective use of adaptive strategies.
  • Collaborating closely with classroom teachers to adapt reading materials, procure specialized resources, and prepare instructional content in Braille and other accessible formats.
  • Maintaining robust communication with both the Louisiana Department of Education and district administration to uphold compliance and quality service.
  • Utilizing your expertise in assistive technology designed for the visually impaired, training both students and staff for practical everyday application.
  • Contributing insight to program planning by analyzing student data and collaborating in the development of IEPs.
  • Meeting all record-keeping, communication, and reporting standards in alignment with IDEA requirements.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Ideal candidates bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree, valid Louisiana teaching certification, and a specialization in visual impairment.
  • More than three years’ experience with elementary, secondary, and/or special education populations.
  • In-depth knowledge of Braille instruction and familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred).
  • Excellent analytic, communication, and organizational skills.
  • The ability to balance multiple priorities and adapt quickly within dynamic educational environments.
  • Transportation for travel between school sites; physical ability for typical job duties.
  • Ability to meet credentialing, drug screening, and fingerprinting requirements.
