This contract role offers the chance to make a measurable impact while providing specialized instruction, advocacy, and tools for academic access across multiple school sites. As an itinerant professional, you will travel to various schools, collaborating with educators and families to ensure each student’s unique needs are met.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana DOE certification, with specialized credential in teaching students with visual impairments
- Minimum of three years’ teaching experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Proven success raising student achievement in challenging environments
- Expertise in assistive technology for the visually impaired and the ability to train students and teachers
- Competence in Braille instruction; experience with orientation and mobility training is a plus
- Excellent communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to inspire others
- Strong analytical and organizational skills; able to manage competing priorities and use data to drive decisions
- Must pass district-required drug screening and fingerprinting; ability to provide own transportation
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel between multiple school sites in the area to deliver direct services to visually impaired students (grades and ages vary)
- Prepare adapted reading materials and secure resources tailored to student needs
- Collaborate regularly with general classroom teachers, school administrators, the Louisiana Department of Education, and families
- Provide in-service training to school staff about supporting visually impaired students
- Maintain thorough documentation and clear communication across stakeholders
- Perform other duties as directed by leadership
