Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or eligibility for state credentialing
- Previous experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments in K-12 environments
- Strong knowledge of adaptive technology, Braille instruction, and individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and educational teams
- Enthusiasm for fostering an inclusive and positive learning environment
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum to diverse visual needs and learning styles
- Assess student capabilities and collaboratively develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Utilize and teach the use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology, including Braille devices and screen readers
- Consult with general classroom teachers and staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are in place
- Monitor student progress, provide ongoing feedback, and document achievement effectively
- Communicate regularly with families, sharing insights, resources, and strategies for success
- Advocate for students’ access to a full range of educational experiences
