As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, you will play a crucial role in supporting students’ academic growth and independence within school settings.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or eligibility for state credentialing
  • Previous experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments in K-12 environments
  • Strong knowledge of adaptive technology, Braille instruction, and individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and educational teams
  • Enthusiasm for fostering an inclusive and positive learning environment

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum to diverse visual needs and learning styles
  • Assess student capabilities and collaboratively develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Utilize and teach the use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology, including Braille devices and screen readers
  • Consult with general classroom teachers and staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are in place
  • Monitor student progress, provide ongoing feedback, and document achievement effectively
  • Communicate regularly with families, sharing insights, resources, and strategies for success
  • Advocate for students’ access to a full range of educational experiences
