Qualifications and Experience:
- Current certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or equivalent credential required
- Experience working with K-12 students who are visually impaired
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional strategies
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, educators, and families
- Adaptable, patient, and committed to creating an inclusive classroom environment
Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ visual abilities and design appropriate instructional materials and learning activities
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and the use of specialized technology
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers and other support staff
- Advocate for students’ needs and accommodations within the school setting
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
- Maintain open communication with families and participate in IEP meetings
