Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Middle River, MD

Qualifications and Experience:

• Current certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or equivalent credential required
• Experience working with K-12 students who are visually impaired
• Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional strategies
• Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, educators, and families
• Adaptable, patient, and committed to creating an inclusive classroom environment

Responsibilities:

• Assess students’ visual abilities and design appropriate instructional materials and learning activities
• Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and the use of specialized technology
• Collaborate closely with general education teachers and other support staff
• Advocate for students’ needs and accommodations within the school setting
• Monitor and document student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
• Maintain open communication with families and participate in IEP meetings
