As a skilled professional with experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, you will play a pivotal role in fostering independence and academic success for students who rely on your expertise, encouragement, and creativity.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Education for the Visually Impaired, or a related field
- Current state teaching certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Demonstrated experience working with children and adolescents with visual impairments in educational settings
- Proficiency with assistive technology, Braille, and adaptive materials
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Compassion and patience when adapting learning plans to individual student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) tailored for students with visual impairments
- Teach Braille, assistive technology, orientation and mobility skills, and daily living techniques as appropriate
- Consult with general education teachers to adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments for accessibility
- Assess and monitor student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed
- Advocate for students’ needs and coordinate with families and support staff
