Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current (or eligibility for) state teaching certification in Visual Impairments
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education for the Visually Impaired or related field
  • Previous experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments in a school setting preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Braille instruction, assistive technologies, and adaptive materials
  • Exceptional communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Passion for supporting the diverse needs and learning styles of students

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized instruction and adapt curriculum for students with visual impairments across grade levels
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and help determine appropriate accommodations and modifications
  • Guide and train classroom teachers and support staff on effective strategies and use of specialized equipment
  • Partner with families, therapists, and other professionals to create comprehensive support plans
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes
  • Maintain accurate records and participate in IEP meetings and school team collaborations
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all students
