Teacher for the Visually Impaired - Monterey, California

Key Skill Requirements:

• Valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) or equivalent credentials
• Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
• Strong understanding of assistive technology and Braille instruction
• Ability to assess and adapt curriculum materials for students with varying levels of vision loss
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with general education teachers, support staff, and families

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, both individually and in small groups
• Conduct assessments to determine students’ current levels of performance and specific needs
• Develop and modify educational materials to ensure access and engagement for students with visual disabilities
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, occupational therapists, orientation and mobility specialists, and parents to support student success
• Serve as an advocate for students’ needs within the school community
• Maintain accurate records and participate in IEP meetings
• Stay current on best practices, instructional strategies, and new technology relevant to visual impairment education
