As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you'll collaborate closely with students, families, and fellow faculty, adapting curriculum materials and employing specialized instructional techniques in a classroom-based setting. Your expertise will light the way for students with visual impairments, empowering them to grow academically, socially, and personally throughout the school year.

Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching credential for the visually impaired (TVI)
  • Demonstrated experience working with students with visual impairments in a school environment
  • Solid understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and instructional adaptations
  • Proficiency with Braille, assistive technology, and accessibility tools
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong organizational skills and a flexible, student-focused approach

Role responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, tailored to individual strengths and needs
  • Modify classroom materials and activities to ensure accessibility and inclusion
  • Consult with general education teachers to facilitate classroom integration and accommodations
  • Assess student progress, develop educational plans, and participate in IEP meetings
  • Train students in assistive technology, orientation, and mobility as appropriate
  • Maintain detailed records and provide regular progress updates to families and staff
