Support students’ journeys toward independence by providing expert guidance as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) for the upcoming 26-27 school year. You’ll serve as an itinerant specialist, working collaboratively with staff and families to develop and deliver individualized education plans. This role welcomes both local and out-of-state professionals ready to inspire learners and help open new possibilities for students with visual impairments.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain one
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field with a focus on visual impairments
- Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired across a range of age groups (K-12)
- Familiarity with Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility principles is highly valued
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instructional and consult services to K-12 students identified as visually impaired, rotating between school sites in the district
- Assess students’ strengths and needs, contributing to the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Support general and special education teachers with adapted materials and accessibility strategies
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and families to track student goals and progress
- Stay current with best practices and educational tools in the field of visual impairment
