This full-time, full school year contract role focuses on providing specialized instruction to help students thrive academically and independently. You’ll collaborate with educational staff, families, and service providers to develop effective strategies and ensure student success.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Current, active credential or license as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Comprehensive understanding of the needs of students with visual impairments
- Proficiency in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Experience with adapted instructional materials, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility skills
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with staff and families
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct, individualized instruction to students with visual impairments in both classroom and resource settings
- Conduct vision-related assessments and participate in IEP meetings, providing expertise in areas such as Braille, large print, assistive technology, and orientation/mobility
- Develop and modify lesson plans and instructional approaches according to student needs and goals
- Advise and train teachers and support staff on best practices for accommodating visually impaired learners
- Communicate progress and strategies with families, fostering inclusive home-school partnerships
- Participate in ongoing professional development related to visual impairments and special education
