Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with children or young adults who are blind or have low vision
  • Strong knowledge of adapted curriculum, Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility concepts
  • Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and related service professionals
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Adaptable and patient with a student-centered approach

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative instruction to students with visual impairments across multiple grade levels, as outlined in their IEPs
  • Develop and adapt instructional materials to meet individual needs, including Braille or large print resources
  • Coordinate and implement assistive technology accommodations
  • Assess students’ functional vision and provide recommendations to support independent learning
  • Partner with general education teachers to support inclusive practices
  • Track student progress, participate in IEP meetings, and maintain accurate records
  • Support students in building self-advocacy and daily living skills
