Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with children or young adults who are blind or have low vision
- Strong knowledge of adapted curriculum, Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility concepts
- Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and related service professionals
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Adaptable and patient with a student-centered approach
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative instruction to students with visual impairments across multiple grade levels, as outlined in their IEPs
- Develop and adapt instructional materials to meet individual needs, including Braille or large print resources
- Coordinate and implement assistive technology accommodations
- Assess students’ functional vision and provide recommendations to support independent learning
- Partner with general education teachers to support inclusive practices
- Track student progress, participate in IEP meetings, and maintain accurate records
- Support students in building self-advocacy and daily living skills
