Empower students and make a meaningful impact as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in an educational setting near Murrayville, GA. This contract role offers the chance to work closely with students who are blind or have visual impairments, supporting their academic success and independence.
Key Qualifications:
- State teaching certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain it
- Experience working with children or adolescents who are visually impaired, preferably in a school setting
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive strategies for visual impairments
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Flexibility and creative problem-solving to adapt materials and teaching methods
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and specialized support in core subjects and compensatory skills to students with visual impairments
- Adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments for accessibility
- Conduct formal and informal functional vision assessments
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and related service personnel to ensure effective inclusion
- Train staff and families on assistive technology and Braille, as needed
- Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and required documentation
- Advocate for students’ needs and foster self-advocacy skills in learners
