Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification for Visually Impaired students
- Proven experience working with students with visual impairments in a school setting
- Mastery of braille and accessible technology tools (e.g., screen readers, magnification devices)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and school staff
- Ability to assess students’ functional vision and adapt instruction
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to visually impaired students, developing individualized lesson plans
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and specialized materials to support student access and independence
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to create holistic education plans
- Conduct functional vision assessments and track student progress
- Participate in IEP meetings, goal planning, and report writing
- Serve as a resource to colleagues on best practices for supporting visually impaired students
