Step into a dynamic role supporting visually impaired students across multiple sites in the New Orleans area. In this contract position, you'll play a crucial part in ensuring learners with visual impairments receive the tools and instruction they need to thrive academically and socially throughout the 2026-2027 school year. As an itinerant teacher for the visually impaired, you will collaborate with students of various age groups and work closely with educators and administrators, providing direct services and expert guidance on accessibility, materials, and assistive technology.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and certification in teaching the visually impaired are required.
  • Active Louisiana Department of Education certification.
  • At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings.
  • Strong background in assistive technology for the visually impaired.
  • Ability to teach Braille and familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and analytical skills.
  • High level of professionalism, adept at managing multiple priorities.
  • Must pass district and agency credentialing requirements, including drug screening and fingerprinting.
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites daily; valid driver's license and reliable transportation needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instructional services to students with visual impairments, adapting materials and strategies for diverse needs.
  • Consult with classroom educators to prepare accessible materials in appropriate formats.
  • Provide training for school personnel and consultative support to maximize inclusion and learning for visually impaired students.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and district staff.
  • Procure, adapt, and manage specialized textbooks and tactile learning aids.
  • Complete other assigned duties as determined by leadership and district requirements.
