Make a lasting impact supporting students with visual impairments in a vibrant school community near New Orleans, LA! This contract opportunity offers the chance to work across multiple sites as an itinerant professional, delivering essential services and resources for visually impaired students from elementary through secondary grades.

Responsibilities include:

• Traveling daily to assigned school locations to provide direct support for visually impaired students
• Facilitating and interpreting educational needs, ensuring students receive the appropriate accommodations
• Delivering in-service training to school staff to support program implementation
• Acquiring and preparing specialized textbooks and educational materials
• Collaborating closely with general education teachers to prepare reading materials in accessible formats
• Maintaining active communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and participating in conferences or meetings as needed
• Offering Braille instruction and guidance in assistive technology designed for visually impaired students
• Performing additional duties assigned by educational leadership

Desired skills and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree and current certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (Louisiana DOE Cert required)
• Three or more years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education
• Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to engage and inspire both students and colleagues
• Demonstrated expertise in assistive technology and Braille instruction
• Independent, self-starter mindset with proven success in challenging environments
• Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is a plus
• Candidates must be able to meet credentialing requirements, including drug screening and fingerprinting
• Physical ability to travel between locations and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds

This is a full-time position (35 hours/week, 7 hours/day, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch) aligning with the school year calendar, from early August to late May.
