As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI), you will play an essential role in providing direct instruction, facilitating services, and collaborating with educators to ensure students receive the specialized support they need to thrive. This role is itinerant, covering several locations, so flexibility and a passion for travel within the area are key.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and certification in visual impairment (required)
- Active Louisiana Department of Education certification (required)
- At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to motivate and inspire others
- Expertise in assistive technology for the visually impaired, plus Braille instruction
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred)
- High level of professionalism, problem-solving, and analytical ability
- Must pass drug screening and fingerprinting as part of the credentialing process
- Ability to provide your own transportation and access multiple work sites
Responsibilities:
- Offer direct instructional and consultative support to visually impaired students
- Coordinate and obtain textbooks and materials in accessible formats
- Work closely with school staff, providing ongoing in-service training
- Maintain regular contact and communication with both the Louisiana DOE and district personnel
- Prepare reading materials in appropriate mediums for each student
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the Director of IDEA
