Qualifications:
- Degree in Special Education or related field with certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience providing direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in school settings
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Familiarity with assistive technology and orientation & mobility strategies
- Passion for advocating for students with special needs and ensuring accessibility in the educational environment
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction to students with visual impairments across various grade levels
- Assess students’ abilities and needs to develop effective strategies and IEP goals
- Adapt curriculum and materials for accessibility, utilizing braille, large print, or digital resources
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, families, and administrators to ensure student success
- Provide consultation, professional development, and resources to staff regarding visual impairments
- Track student progress and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with district and state guidelines
