Qualifications:

  • Degree in Special Education or related field with certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience providing direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in school settings
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and orientation & mobility strategies
  • Passion for advocating for students with special needs and ensuring accessibility in the educational environment

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized instruction to students with visual impairments across various grade levels
  • Assess students’ abilities and needs to develop effective strategies and IEP goals
  • Adapt curriculum and materials for accessibility, utilizing braille, large print, or digital resources
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, families, and administrators to ensure student success
  • Provide consultation, professional development, and resources to staff regarding visual impairments
  • Track student progress and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with district and state guidelines
