Step into a vital role supporting students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in an engaging school setting near Norfolk, VA. You’ll provide in-person instruction three days per week, for a total of 21 hours. While on-site presence is preferred, consideration may be given to candidates open to virtual (VOCO) arrangements.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) license in Virginia
- Proficiency in teaching Braille to students at varying developmental skill levels
- Experience working within school environments supporting students who are visually impaired
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to collaborate with students, families, and educational teams
- Ability to adapt curriculum and assess student needs and progress
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments in core academic subjects and expanded core curriculum
- Teach Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive strategies to enhance access to learning materials
- Develop and implement educational plans, track progress, and participate in IEP meetings
- Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to accommodate visual needs
- Promote student confidence, independence, and inclusion within the academic environment
