Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Oakland, CA

Key Qualifications:

• Valid certification or licensure as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in special education, visual impairment, or related field
• Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, preferably in a school setting
• Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment for visually impaired learners
• Strong communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills
• Ability to create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment

Primary Responsibilities:

• Conduct assessments and develop individualized instructional plans tailored to each student’s needs
• Deliver direct and indirect services to students with visual impairments, both individually and in group settings
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, aides, and family members to support students’ accessibility and inclusion
• Train staff and students in the use of Braille, adaptive devices, and accessible materials
• Track student progress and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with district and state requirements
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary team discussions
• Provide ongoing consultation and guidance to support student independence and self-advocacy
