Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification or endorsement to teach students with visual impairments
- Prior experience working in a school setting strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of assistive technology and accessible instructional materials
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to assess student needs and develop individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs tailored to individual student goals
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to adapt curriculum
- Train staff and students in the use of assistive technology and orientation/mobility techniques
- Provide support and instructional strategies to maximize students’ independence and participation
- Maintain accurate records and ongoing progress documentation
