Make a difference in the lives of students as a contract instructor specializing in teaching individuals with visual impairments. This full-time, onsite opportunity is set in the Binghamton, NY area for the 2026-2027 school year (anticipated dates: early September 2026 through early June 2027). You’ll play a pivotal role in helping students maximize their independence and achieve academic success, working directly within a school environment that values specialized support and personalized instruction.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Active certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, ideally in educational settings
- Strong knowledge of adaptive techniques, Braille, and assistive technology for visual impairment
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary educational teams, families, and related service providers
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to advocacy for visually impaired youth
- Dedication to professional growth and responsiveness to student needs
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and tailored educational support to students with visual impairments
- Assess student needs and develop individualized instructional plans
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to ensure accessible curriculum and full participation
- Support the acquisition of core academic, daily living, orientation and mobility skills
- Maintain accurate records, develop progress reports, and contribute to IEP meetings
- Serve as an educational resource for colleagues and families regarding strategies and accommodations
