Full-Time Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Position Overview:
Soliant is seeking a qualified and collaborative full-time Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide itinerant services to students with visual impairments across school sites in California. This position is primarily consultative in nature, supporting students, families, and educational teams to ensure access to curriculum and instructional materials. Some direct braille instruction and Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) services will also be required based on individual student needs.
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in visual impairment services, skilled in collaboration, and passionate about supporting students in inclusive educational environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide consultative services to general education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and families regarding accommodation and supports for students with visual impairments
- Deliver direct instruction in braille literacy, assistive technology, and compensatory skills as identified in student IEPs
- Support implementation of accommodations including large print, tactile graphics, accessible technology, and modified instructional materials
- Collaborate with IEP teams to develop goals, accommodations, and service recommendations
- Conduct or assist with Functional Vision Assessments (FVA) and Learning Media Assessments (LMA)
- Provide support in areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) including self-advocacy, organization, sensory efficiency, and assistive technology
- Maintain accurate service documentation, progress reports, and compliance records
- Travel between assigned school sites to provide itinerant services
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, staff trainings, and professional development opportunities
Qualifications:
- Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential with authorization in Visual Impairments required
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Proficiency in braille reading and instruction preferred
- Knowledge of assistive technology and accessible educational tools for students with visual impairments
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a flexible itinerant schedule
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation required
Preferred Experience:
- Experience providing itinerant TVI services in K–12 educational settings
- Familiarity with California special education regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience supporting elementary-aged students preferred
- Knowledge of inclusive practices and consultative service delivery models
