Empower students with visual impairments to achieve their fullest potential by bringing your specialized expertise to a school district serving a diverse group of learners. This full-time contract opportunity runs from October through early June of the following year, providing you with the unique chance to make a significant impact across multiple campuses.

As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI), you will work with 12 direct students, providing 690 service minutes per week, and offer consultative support for 2 additional students. Assignments will cover up to five schools, with students ranging across different grade levels. Your skills in teaching Braille and adapting educational materials will be pivotal in ensuring accessibility and supporting academic progress.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Florida Department of Education Teacher for the Visually Impaired certification.
  • Experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments.
  • Strong proficiency in Braille instruction and accessible technologies.
  • Ability to travel between multiple school sites as assigned.
  • Eligible for district fingerprinting (with potential for AHCA Clearinghouse transfer if previously printed).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized and group instruction in Braille and non-visual learning techniques.
  • Collaborate closely with general education and special education staff to facilitate inclusive learning environments.
  • Adapt curriculum and materials to meet diverse student needs.
  • Provide consultative services and training for classroom teachers and support staff.
  • Track and document student progress, service delivery minutes, and IEP goals.
